Hi beta-testers, hi everyone. Everyone… from now on, everyone can use Tumbup, although we’re still in beta. A new release fulfilled with plenty of functionalities. A new design, a check-in system, possibility to leave reviews, link your twitter account twitter, suggest contributions, create lists, earn badges… Let’s detail all of these updates.

A small brushstroke

First, the design. A literal change. A top bar allows you to navigate through the different sections of Tumbup ; we think the new design will be easier to use, nicer and smoother.

We thank you for all of your feedbacks. The users’ profile pages, and the entities’ ones were redesigned. Feel free to leave us more feedbacks!

Further recommendation

What are you doing, right now ? Are you watching a movie ? Reading a book ? Where are you ? The check-in button allow you to share instantly what you’re doing ; it works with books, movies, tv-shows, events, places or even people you’re with.

Moreover, you can now leave reviews about every single entity. Give your opinion on a movie, a sport, a hotel or even a celebrity! Just leave a review. Indeed, knowing who like this item or this other one is good, but it’s more relevant to you if your friends have left a review on an item.

Finally, lists are emerging. The timeline is convenient to follow the recommendations of your friends. The lists allow you to create parallel timeline, focusing on specific tags, or some people. Some of your friends are specialized on movies? Create a list showing you their recommendations!

Together, enrich Tumbup

Together, our knowledge is limitless. The description of a nightclub does not seem complete? The profile of your favorite actor is incomplete? Correct it! Now you can suggest changes on every page.

These contributions are based on the community: they must be approved by other members. You can then approve or disapprove the proposed changes suggested by other members.

Earn badges

Life is a game, Tumbup too. Right now, you can earn badges on Tumbup. They attest of your involvement, your curiosity, but also your ingenuity. Every week new badges will be released ; some are collectors, others difficult to find. You’ll be able to show to your social sphere who’s the best!

Hello fans and all the others! Once again, we have some amazing news ! Our engine was hardworking while you were enjoying our private beta. So here we are with a bunch of great data!

We called it the “Rich Media Content” system. It allows us to get enhanced features on the pages like videos, pictures or even sound. Just imagine, you like an artist like… let’s say Radiohead. You go on its page; you can see pictures of their shows, or even the videos of their music. On a movie, watch its trailer before you decide where to go to see it!

You want to see what do this park looks like. Just go on its page too, see all the pictures which was taken from there, sounds nice?
Rich media content will allow you to browse TumbUp with not only text, but with pictures, videos, and soon, music ! All of those things in real-time… everything you want to see on a ‘3.0’ website.

Since we released the engine, the team worked hard to enhance it for a better beta test experience. The release of the week focuses on an important work about relevance and transparency.

Last friday, a quick look about the new interface was available, it includes a brand new social bar (on top of the page) and the possibility to share your tastes with your Facebook friends every time you Like an item.

Moreover there’s the Around Me feature which allows you to see the hottest things close to you.

Sharing is caring ! Tell your friends what you really like and give them hints about your tastes! It works now on Facebook, but we’ll soon integrate other ones (Twitter, Tumblr… and all the others!)

Last but not least, when you’re on a page, you can now see all the related items about it. The actors playing in the movie you’re looking at, the musicians in the band you’re listening to, the restaurants near the one you’re eating in.

What about our engine now? It is more relevant, faster, and it differentiates new object to older ones.

We also worked on our backend interface (yeah folks you can’t see it, but it helps us a lot). We’re going to have a lot of work in the coming weeks!

Hello, and welcome to Tumbup’s new blog. We have a lot of exciting news to share with you!

Which movie should I watch? In which restaurant should I bring my date tonight? Which book should I read now? TumbUp now answers these questions we all asked once.

A few months ago, we released the private beta of Tumbup, the first recommendation engine using a semantic approach based on your social sphere. In order to improve search results and make them more relevant to what you are looking for, we decided to limit the number of initial users. We gave a few betacodes to bloggers for their readers. You can see their press articles on this page (in French).

The launch of TumbUp was not only buzzing in press articles; we also took part in several contests. The first one was the BeMyApp WeekEnds, with the aim of developing an iPhone App in one weekend. TumbUp was very proud to reach the final phase. TumbUp also competed in the Google Innovation Program and the TwistParis event, an international event for startups sponsored by This Week In.

Moreover, Tumbup recently became an official Microsoft BizSpark Startup.
